New to Cross Lutheran?

Since 1877 God's Spirit has blown upon this windy church hill and has called us to gather around Word and Sacrament and help our neighbors in a variety of ways. We Worship, we serve, we learn, we sing, we celebrate.

There is a place for you in this community - come to worship, learn and teach, serve and be served, create friendships and be a part of our family.

Our Mission's Statement

JOYFULLY DOING GOD’S WORK!!!

As members of Cross, we remain committed to this mission by:

Praying daily.  Joyfully worshipping through the sacraments, scripture and music. Inspiring faith through Bible study and youth education. Being in relationship with Christ and God’s children Serving as called by the Holy Spirit through giving of our time, talents and resources.

Our History

When did the church start and what are we doing now?

Cross Lutheran Church was organized in 1877 and has rich history of worship, outreach, community involvement, and of course, music. We were lucky enough to have an Anniversary Committee (for our 125th anniversary in 2002) create a history book that outlines many of the moments in history that honor our heritage. This book is available at our church office, so feel free to inquire about a closer look into our congregation’s history.

Cross Lutheran has undergone many changes in the last 10 years, be we remain true to our heritage.

Perhaps the most significant of the changes are the transitions in Pastoral leadership. We had a long time pastor 20+ years move from our congregation as her family has grown up. We had a first call pastor and her young family with us for two years, had an interim pastor and his family join us for a stint, along with another Pastor. Now, we are led by the wonderful Pastor Doug Andersen whom we share with Zion Lutheran in Ashippun. Each of these relationships has inspired us in different ways, and we are reminded by our leaders both past and present of God’s grace.

What denomination is Cross?

Cross is part of the ELCA, which stands for Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are part of the Greater Milwaukee Synod. You can find out more about the ELCA and the Synod at the links provided.

Pastor

Doug Andersen

Our pastor is Doug Andersen. He has been serving our congregation since January of 2019. Pastor Doug was born in Seattle and received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Washington. Before becoming a pastor, he served in the United States Marine Corps in military intelligence and then, after leaving the military, owned and operated a private investigations business with his father. In 2001 he started feeling that God was calling him to be more active in ministry. He and his family began a process of discernment that resulted in their decision to leave Washington state and move to St. Paul, Minnesota so he could attend Luther Seminary. Pastor Doug loves teaching, preaching, and visiting with people. He leads a weekly adult bible study where we delve deeply into the scriptures for the week and look at how they can inform how we live our lives and strengthen our relationships. On Tuesdays he holds an open coffee chat time at a local coffee shop where we can just drop in and chat about anything. He likes to remind us that God is everywhere and present in everything we do and that we are all beloved children of God.
